Write about a scene from the movie that you particularly liked and explain how that scene added to the overall theme or themes of the play. Please do not write about a scene that someone has already written about. Write about your own original thoughts.

May 10-16 Finish BNW/1984

After finishing the book, write about your over-all reaction. Write down the most significant quote from the book and explain why it is crucial to the meaning of the book. Also, if we had read this as a class, how would you recommend doing that. What assignments would you give to help students better understand the book?

May 4-9 BNW and 1984 II

Write out a quotation from whichever book you are reading. Explain how the quote develops a central idea of the book and then explain what aspect of our society the author is commenting upon.

April 26-May 3 BNW or 1984

From whichever book you are reading, choose a quotation and then explain how it develops character, a theme in the book, or an aspect of the world it is creating. Then comment on how this particular quotation represents something similar in our society today.

April 19-25 Turn of the Screw, the movie

Describe one scene from the movie that you think the director captured the book very well. Then describe one scene that you think the director missed the mark altogether. Give specific reasons why you chose each scene.

April 12-18 Turn of the Screw III

You have been doing an excellent job in not repeating what others have already said. Keep up the good work.

Write out a quotation from the book that seems particularly hard to understand. Explain how it is ambiguous, how it develops some psychological aspect of the story, or how it adds to one of the themes that we have been discussing in class. What is it about the sentence that makes it difficult to interpret?

March 23-28 The Turn of the Screw

Write out a quotation from the book and explain how it helps develop a major theme or give insight into a character in the book.

March 15-22 No blog this week

Because we are writing an essay this week, we will have no blog.

March 8-14 R&G are Dead II

• Write some lines from the play Act II or III and reflect on the meaning of those lines in terms of the rest of the play or in terms of existentialism.
• Also, comment on the movie. Describe a scene in which the movie version clarifies the text more than you might have thought it could.

March 1 - 7 R&G are Dead

In this blog write a quotation from the play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Then explain why you like these lines, how they are important to central themes in the play, or how the lines reflect back to something in Hamlet.

Feb 22-28 Hamlet

1. What was your favorite scene from the movie? Describe it and tell why the choices the director made worked particularly well.
2. Would you like to watch a different movie version of Hamlet? Why or why not.
3. If we were to watch one scene from three or four versions of Hamlet, what scene would you choose? Why?

Feb 8 - 21 Hamlet Act IV & V

1. Write a quotation from the play and explain why it is significant to the play as a whole.

2. Now that we have finished reading the play, write about what you think of it. Explain what you liked and what you did not like.

Feb 1 - Feb 7 Hamlet Act III

1. Write a quote from Act III and explain why it is significant to the rest of the play. Make sure you do not repeat a quote that someone else has chosen.

2. Also, discuss a scene in the movie and explain how the way Branagh chose to portray the scene helped to clarify the scene or make the scene more confusing. Again, do not write about a scene that someone else has chosen.

Jan. 19-Feb 1 End of Semester

There is no blog for the rest of the semester. This week is CP and next week is finals week. We will resume blogs on February 1.
